Banana & Peanut Butter Porridge Fingers #DairyFree #EggFree

Monday, 20 July 2015

Breakfasts are always hit and miss here, Things One and Two as well as The Dude are absolute cereal killers,  we go through so much of the stuff we need shares in it.  We can't even substitute with the cheaper own brand versions because they know.

Cheerios I've always nicknamed Mother's Helpers because should you need to get something done in the kitchen they work tremendously well at occupying your baby/toddler whilst in their high chair (and handy for practicing their pincer grip and fine motor skills)

Weetabix in baby led weaning is Satan's diarrhea insofar as to say it gets everywhere and you need to pray to the antibacterial wipes and the gods of broken nails to clean it up.  Often you contemplate using fire or a pick axe.

Toast is often used at lunch and the floor isn't very hungry for it in the morning.

Currently as we're egg-free and dairy free that also rules out omelette and scrambled eggs.

So we turned to the baby led weaning favourite; porridge fingers.

2 Ingredient dairy free & egg free Ice Cream

Wednesday, 15 July 2015

Well okay if you're going to be a pedant about it, it's not technically ice cream.  When you're dairy free and egg free though you have to get your kicks wherever you can.

This is super simple as in idiot proof, trust me, if I can do it anyone can.

3 Ingredient Strawberry Yum

3 Ingredient strawberry yum

Seeing how Moomin enjoyed the 3 Ingredient Chocolate Goo, I had another play around with what we had in the cupboards so she'd have some more summer friendly, teething alleviating treats that are both dairy free and egg free.

3 Ingredient, dairy free & egg free, chocolate goo

I'm aware that the blog is long overdue a Moomin update, I will rectify this soon, she's 10 months old now!  I will however tell you that currently Moomin and I are dairy free and egg free.  For a dairy junkie like myself this is a nightmare.  I seem to spend my time swinging between abject misery in emo territory and furiously Googling all the naughty things a dairy whore like me can eat.  When everything from supermarket sorbet (yes, really) to emergency Pot Noodles contain milk.  Not only are many dairy free and egg free items twice the price they're only half the taste, if you're lucky.  Cardboard infused with nettles.  You get my drift?

I did find an on-line recipe for vegan chocolate mousse,  Google seduced me with it's promises of sheer indulgent chocolate heaven.  It wooed me with suggestive sweet whispers that you can't taste the avocado.  It....lied.  Yes.  Lied.  All I could taste was avocado.  I couldn't even finish it.  Don't even get me started on the liquid evil that is soy milk.

Priorities first, chocolate and ice cream.

This is where the 3 Ingredient chocolate goo comes into play, it's dairy free and egg free.  I shit you not.  It's easy peasy and incredibly quick to make too.

A #MorrisonsMum Post: Baking with The Preschooler (Post 1)

Saturday, 3 May 2014

One of our favourate recipes to bake at home is Jammie Dodgers.  They're cheap to make, easy, fun and best of all they're yummy.

I promised The Preschooler we could bake this week, the only ingredient we'd run out of was Jam.  Not a problem whilst doing our #MorrisonsMum shop, we picked some up and as a bonus it fell under their new #imcheaper price.  It means you can afford to get a better quality product for less without having to drop down in quality a little to the basic range.

I'll now pass you over to The Preschooler's more than capable expert hands to show you how to make this culinary delight....

1.
 (First you have to add all the ingrediants; flour (& bicarbnate of soda), sugar, butter, egg and golden syrup)

2.
(The we Mix mix mix)

3.
(Now we roll it out.)

4.
(Then we cut the shapes out, don't forget the holes!)

5.
(Get a grown up to put them in the oven)

6.
(Finally put the jam or chocolate spread on!)

The recipe we use is the Jammie Dodgers recipe from the Morrisons website.

To make these you will need:

* Plain Flour
* Caster Sugar
* Bicarbonate Soda
* Golden Syrup
* Egg (#ImCheaper !)
* Jam* (#ImCheaper !)
* Icing sugar (#ImCheaper !)

* You can also substitute the jam for lemon curd or chocolate spread.

Here's some I made earlier:
